Mission

The mission of Western Colorado Training Center is to provide personal development experiences for an  individual who has the desire to enrich their outdoor skills using Horses, Ranching, Hunting, Cooking, Fishing, Wilderness Navigation and Survival skills.

Our Training Mission

Additional Information

The skills learned here include equine management/back country packing, big game hunting, wilderness survival, outdoor camping/cooking skills plus wilderness fishing which   will help enrich your outdoor experience.

The mountain based outdoor facilities are designed to duplicate and stimulate the rigors and hardships of a remote mountain camp/ranch setting.  We uses authentic outfitter style wall tents and related equipment such as military grade cots, gas lanterns, wood stoves and latrine facilities found in remote outfitter  camps. You gather, cut, and split your own firewood using chainsaws axes and mauls, use portable tent stoves, outdoor cooking techniques.

Outdoor cooking is designed to familiarize you with cooking using “cast iron” based cooking methods. Students use outdoor fire rings, outdoor gas grills and authentic portable based gas propane stoves and ovens used in remote outfitter hunting camps. All meals are student “self-prepared” using outdoor cooking techniques. We DO NOT provide an on-site “cook”. Participates perform all “cleaning duties” using the same techniques found in an outdoor outfitter camp or mountain ranch setting.

We have on site “showers” and latrine. All personal laundry care is your responsibility. We provide on-site water from our state certified and tested underground “well water” supply. Our well water is filtered and supplied at students’ needs for drinking, washing and cleaning. You may supply your own drinking water at your own expense.

Our ranch is at a self-sustaining outdoor location. Electricity is generated by use of solar power only. We provide limited access to electricity for cell phone charging and special medical equipment. All needs for charging special medical equipment for use by you must be requested in writing prior to the start of any clinic commencement. Special charging units are available commercially at your own expense. We will provide limited power to charge units free of charge 2 hours per day.

Our horses and mules are the same breeds and sizes used by professional outdoor outfitters. The riding and packing animals used here have considerable outdoor mountain training. The equine animals we use are “NOT” pasture pets! They are working animals bred and trained to work in an outdoor mountain terrain setting. Students must participate in “ALL” equine care while attending all equine/ranching clinics.

We are “NOT” a vacation or Glamping resort. We are “NOT” a personal “vacation spot” for anyone who is “NOT” prepared to live in an outdoor mountain ranch environment for an extended period of time. The ranch comes complete with all of the “Wildlife” expected to be running wild in an outdoor remote mountain camp. Please act and prepare accordingly.
